Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a
Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II .
Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper working condition.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards; upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings in Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
Work independently and manage your daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity within or close to most standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
Communicate with management and the support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, or discuss RO findings notes.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Maintain the company‑issued service truck and conduct daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (or a different combination, such as a college degree and 5 years of related experience).
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months of hire.
Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; otherwise a DOT physical will be required.
Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
Safe driver required; possess a valid state‑of‑residence driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
