Pool Maintenance Specialist

General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining pools in swim centers, water play areas, splash pads, and ornamental water fountains. Responsibilities include documenting water chemicals used and levels, and related tasks as assigned. Work is performed under moderate supervision of the Pool Maintenance Coordinator.

Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City's swimming pools and related facilities.
Repairs mechanical equipment in filtration rooms and repairs structural damage to pool decking, fencing, pool plaster, drain covers, guttering, and skimmer systems. Performs maintenance on all pool maintenance equipment. Tests water chemistry at public swim centers, splash pads, and ornamental water fountains; audits and transports pool chemicals; reviews, documents, and logs all pool chemical data; reviews public health codes for updates on safety standards for water chlorination and disinfection. Assists with closing and winterizing all public swim centers, splash pads, and ornamental water fountains. Inspects swim center facilities and perimeter daily for safety issues, vandalism, and proper operation of filtration equipment. Maintains and cares for tools and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of industry standards, organization, department policies, practices, and procedures; knowledge of purchasing water test kits and ordering pool chemicals; ability to review water test results; general knowledge of commercial pool maintenance and construction practices; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; arithmetic skills including computing rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and moderate experience with plumbing, pumps, motors, and piping, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements Requires frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds; work involves speaking, hearing, manual dexterity, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and occasional sitting, tasting, or smelling. Visual requirements include detailed inspection and operation of equipment. Work may expose to wet conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, chemicals, outdoor weather, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, vibration, and bloodborne pathogens. Personal protective equipment may be required. Special Requirements Valid driver's license required upon hire. Certification as a Pool Operator from the National Swimming Pool Foundation must be obtained within six months of employment. Pool operation training is also required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
