We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Emergency Vehicle Upfitter Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for the installation, wiring, and fabrication of components for emergency vehicles, including lights, sirens, radios, skid units, and custom equipment mounts. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in vehicle upfitting, electrical systems, and light fabrication, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Install and wire emergency lighting, sirens, radios, and control systems on various emergency vehicles (fire, police, EMS).
Mount and secure skid units, toolboxes, consoles, partitions, and other specialized equipment.
Perform custom fabrication, including light metalwork, bracket fabrication, and component modifications.
Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and installation manuals to ensure proper setup and system integration.
Troubleshoot and repair previously installed components and systems.
Collaborate with supervisors and customers to ensure installations meet all requirements and standards.
Ensure all work complies with NFPA, DOT, SAE, and departmental standards.
Maintain accurate installation records and assist with quality assurance documentation.
Keep a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols and PPE usage.
Position Requirements
Required: High school diploma or GED. 2+ years of experience in vehicle upfitting, electrical installation, or related automotive field. Strong knowledge of 12V electrical systems and basic wiring techniques. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment (grinders, welders, etc.). Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and technical manuals. Preferred: Experience with emergency vehicles or public safety fleet installations. Fabrication and welding experience (MIG, TIG, plasma cutting). Knowledge of products from manufacturers like Whelen, Fire Tech, Code 3, and Federal Signal. ASE or EVT certification in related fields is a plus. Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
