Position Overview
Effectively applies mental health expertise and clinical skills in providing mental health services to inmates or clients, resulting in an optimal level of care and significant therapeutic outcomes.

Essential Job Duties
Conducts intakes, evaluations, and assessments for inmates referred by security, healthcare, or community staff, and for inmates requesting mental health services; makes referrals to nursing services based on reported symptoms.
Identifies mental health symptoms and treatment needs, including special housing or watch, and recommends to healthcare unit and security staff.
Coordinates closely with MDs, prescribers, psychiatrists, and other staff to ensure evaluation and care of patients.
Recommends and implements non‑pharmacological treatments when appropriate.
Provides crisis and suicide intervention and management for the facility.
Develops and implements clinical supervision and treatment plans for inmates on caseload.
Monitors conditions and treatment needs of special inmate populations.
Provides staff training on relevant mental health issues.
Attends regular treatment team multidisciplinary meetings, classification meetings, or other required administrative meetings, and participates in CQI/QA studies and group sessions.
Offers treatment services in all areas of the facility.
Consults with security and healthcare staff regarding patient behavior, safety concerns, or other mental health concerns.
Provides linkage and discharge planning services when necessary or appropriate.
Documents services and encounters accurately, maintains organized and legible notes, and ensures transfer of information.
Participates in treatment programming and planning discussions of complex cases, monitors medication, and provides general psychiatric input as applicable.
Initiates involuntary hospitalization for inmates who need transfer to outside facilities and prepares appropriate paperwork.
Additional Duties
Correctional mental health experience is preferred.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Master’s level education: MA Clinical Psych, MA Counseling, MA Social Work, or related field.
Licensure: one of LCPC, LPCC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, LAC, LSW.

Employment Requirements
Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Current TB test (taken within one year).
Adhere to all facility policies and procedures and Employee Handbook.
Will assist coworkers and work overtime if required; serve as resource to coworkers.
Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Remain stationary and move throughout facility, including up and down flights of stairs.
Position oneself in different spaces.
Communicate accurately with patients.
Identify and detect objects and assess situations from various distances.
Stay calm in stressful situations.
Frequently transport objects up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates, including blood‑borne pathogens. Employees are expected to follow all security rules and regulations to minimize risks to themselves and others.
