Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applications for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate. This is a 12-month (calendar year), 100% research, special appointment, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, and will work on a USDA-NIFA-AFRI grant to explore thermodynamic factors that affect fat crystallization. The selected candidate will perform crystallization experiments to determine how thermodynamic factors and chemical composition affect crystallization behavior of fats. They will operate laboratory equipment and may train undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will design and perform experiments, analyze and interpret data in collaboration with the PI, summarize results in scientific reports for the funding agency, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at scientific conferences, and submit funding applications with private and federal agencies. In addition to the above duties, the individual is expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level. Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, Physics, Food Engineering, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to perform crystallization experiments and interpret results. Demonstrated knowledge of thermodynamic factors that affect crystallization of food materials such as fats and sugars. Research experience on crystallization-based research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference participation. Experience working independently while contributing in a team. Preferred Qualifications
