Base Pay Range $15.00/hr - $19.00/hr
About The Role The Veterinary Technician at Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians to provide exceptional medical care to companion animals. This position involves performing clinical tasks such as drawing blood, administering medications, and assisting in diagnostic procedures to ensure accurate and timely treatment. The technician will also be responsible for monitoring animal behavior and welfare, ensuring that all patients receive compassionate and attentive care throughout their visit. By maintaining detailed medical records and assisting with animal husbandry, the technician contributes to the overall health and recovery of animals under the hospital's care. Ultimately, this role is essential in promoting animal health and well-being while supporting the hospital’s mission to deliver high-quality veterinary services to the community.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in animal care, including handling and restraint of animals
Proficiency in drawing blood and performing basic laboratory procedures
Strong understanding of animal behavior, welfare, and veterinary medicine principles
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program or equivalent education
Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Alabama
Experience working in a busy veterinary hospital or clinical setting
Additional certifications such as Fear Free® or specialized training in exotic animal care
Familiarity with Impromed veterinary practice management software and electronic medical records
Continuing education in advanced veterinary techniques or animal welfare
Strong communication skills for client education and team collaboration
Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures
Perform routine clinical tasks such as drawing blood, administering medications, and collecting samples for laboratory testing
Monitor and document animal behavior and health status to detect any changes or concerns promptly during surgical procedures
Provide daily care and husbandry for hospitalized animals, including feeding, cleaning, and exercising as appropriate
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and assist with inventory management of medical supplies and equipment
Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, nutrition, and general animal welfare practices
Ensure compliance with all safety and sanitation protocols within the animal hospital environment
Provide excellent client service at all times
Skills The required skills such as animal husbandry, animal behavior, and veterinary medicine are applied daily to ensure the health and comfort of patients at Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital. Drawing blood and performing clinical procedures require precision and adherence to safety protocols to support accurate diagnostics.
