About The Job The lactation consultant provides a comprehensive lactation service to meet the needs of professional providers, antepartum, post-partum lactating women and their families within Elliot Hospital and the community.
What You’ll Do
Collaborates with Women and Children’s health team and families to promote successful lactation; consults and reports the needs of lactating families to healthcare providers; conducts daily lactation rounds on Maternity, NICU, Pediatrics and other departments within the Elliot Hospital system; assesses, plans, implements and documents individualized lactation plans to promote consistent patient care.
Demonstrates expertise in care of mother/infant with complex breastfeeding problems and at-risk infants; performs follow-up calls with families with breastfeeding problems or at risk; provides telephone support on the “Lactation Warm Line”; arranges outpatient or referral appointments; assesses, plans, implements, documents and reevaluates the lactation plan.
Establishes and maintains protocols and guidelines related to standards of care for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the institute; evaluates and maintains breastfeeding aids and equipment; assists in ongoing in-service/education for nursing and medical staff; facilitates successful lactation management and provides current research data for families and healthcare providers; offers consultation for Moms Group and other Elliot services as requested.
Who You Are
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred)
Current New Hampshire, compact, or multistate RN licensure
Certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) required
At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute healthcare institution
Ability to obtain and maintain BLS qualification during orientation period
