About the Agency : Northwest AEA serves 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non‑public schools across ten counties in Northwest Iowa, supporting over 45,000 students and more than 5,000 educators.
Job Purpose : To provide specialized evaluation, instruction, and consultative services required to meet the unique educational needs of students who experience educational difficulty within a multi‑disciplinary problem‑solving team structure.
Qualifications :
Master’s degree in speech pathology.
State of Iowa professional service license or statement of professional recognition from the Iowa Department of Education.
Iowa Department of Public Health speech pathologist license or a speech pathologist temporary clinical license.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Assist AEA/LEA problem‑solving teams in designing, implementing, and evaluating intervention plans and making instructional decisions for students experiencing communication, learning, or behavior problems.
Participate in full and individual student evaluations, using analysis of interventions, planning, assessment, and reporting, to determine eligibility for speech‑language services based on state entrance and exit guidelines.
Provide consultative services to parents, students, teachers, and other stakeholders, including updating progress‑monitoring data.
Assist the AEA and LEAs in compliance with special education rules and regulations.
Develop and implement IEPs and IFSPs, and provide related services as determined by the IEP team.
Supervise student interns/CFY and ASHA interns as requested.
Outline duties for the speech‑language pathology assistant and provide continuing guidance.
Develop and implement therapy plans for students to be carried out by the assistant when appropriate.
Provide professional development and program‑planning training for teachers, parents, and support staff.
Use technology to document and disseminate activities and results.
Adhere to Iowa Department of Education rules, IDEA Part B and C statutes, and Northwest AEA policies.
Work within the current AEA problem‑solving process.
Perform other duties as assigned.
