The University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for a Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (SAD) at the Full Professor level in the Regular, Regular/In Residence, In Residence, or Clinical X series, with faculty responsibilities in clinical, research, and/or teaching duties in an appropriate academic department. The SAD provides leadership for the management of the MD program, including admissions, student affairs, curriculum, and medical school pathway programs, as well as overseeing key leadership positions within Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). They will be a key member of the SOM senior leadership team and will articulate a vision and work collaboratively to design and implement initiatives that further the success of the undergraduate medical student community across the enterprise. The SOM has seen growth and change, and now enters an important period of assessment. The current integrated curriculum was implemented in 2020, and the SAD will be instrumental in evaluating its progress. The SAD will lead the development of innovative physician workforce pathways addressing underserved communities and diversifying the faculty through research pathways for students. The SOM had an LCME accreditation site visit in 2022 and received another full 8-year accreditation. The next scheduled LCME site visit is in 2030. The SAD will work to ensure excellence in preparing medical students for evolving technology and health system reform. They will communicate the school’s mission and encourage creative thinking and innovative solutions, building relationships with stakeholders across campus, region, and state. Ideal candidates will have a strong academic background in medical education, collaborative leadership, commitment to mentorship and development, excellent communication, and passion for student experience. They should be consensus-oriented and demonstrate respectful courage and influence. The SOM values diversity and the SAD will commit to understanding the backgrounds of the student body. Key responsibilities Strategic visioning for undergraduate medical education, organizational management and accountability, accreditation and compliance, and educational innovation. Oversight of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) programs and alignment of all UME activities, including Associate Deans for Admissions, Curriculum, and Students. Leadership of the educational mission for UME to train physicians California needs and deliver an innovative curriculum of distinction. Communicate and collaborate with UME counterparts within the UC system and external partners to advance UME programs and clinical training sites. Utilize a continuous educational quality improvement strategy for all aspects of UME. Develop interprofessional lifelong learning programs integrating medical and allied health education as part of the Health System’s plan for Interprofessional Education. Establish partnerships for strategic planning with committees, chairs, faculty, staff, students and others to enable students to achieve core competencies. Work with the Committee on Educational Policy (CEP) to implement curriculum changes, appoint and support course directors, and ensure faculty adequacy at instructional sites. Meet all LCME accreditation requirements and apply continuous quality improvement. Develop and advance scholarship in medical education and lead efforts to obtain extramural funding. Interact with constituencies to implement information technology across the education mission, including online admissions, a curriculum database, longitudinal student tracking, and the role of AI in medical education. Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer to align resources and staffing. Work with Faculty Development, Academic Personnel, and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to provide educational development opportunities in teaching and promoting equity and inclusion. Basic qualifications

(required at time of application) Qualified candidates hold an MD or equivalent doctoral degree with demonstrated leadership in a medical school or academic health center. Clinically active candidates must be board certified and eligible for licensure in California. Qualified applicants must also possess academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Full Professor in the Ladder Rank (Regular), In-Residence, or Clinical Investigator (Clinical_X) series at UC.
