Overview The Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences (DDBS) at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina, is seeking to hire a Research Technician to conduct research in Dr. Jun Zhu’s laboratory on NIH-funded projects studying the mechanisms of HIV-1 infection associated neurocognitive disorders. The Research Technician conducts research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and performs cell culture and pharmacological assays to characterize the in vitro pharmacological profile of human VMAT2 and its mutants, and to test compounds to identify optimized probe molecules using cell-based expressing human VMAT2. The Research Technician also assists with other ongoing experiments and maintains instruments, lab safety, and lab organization.

Responsibilities

Conduct research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Perform cell culture and pharmacological assays to characterize the in vitro pharmacological profile of human VMAT2 and its mutants.

Test compounds to identify optimized probe molecules using cell-based expressing human VMAT2.

Assist with other ongoing experiments and maintain instruments, lab safety, and lab cleaning/organizing.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or related field. Prior experience working in a research laboratory is preferred.
