Physical Therapist II - Full Time - Days - Spring Valley Houston Methodist Hospital is seeking a Physical Therapist II (PT II) to evaluate and develop the therapy plan of care for a broad range of diagnoses and acuities. This position may specialize in care for certain complex patient types through advanced training and education. The PT II provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers, and collaborates with the interprofessional care team to achieve patient-specific goals. The PT II delivers patient care directly, adheres to safety standards and guidelines, and contributes to exceptional patient service and outcomes. The PT II may act as a preceptor, mentor, and clinical resource to less experienced staff, students, and clinical fellows. The PT II may assist with quality metrics, analytics, and development of best practices and process improvement initiatives as designated.

Responsibilities

Contributes to teamwork, offers assistance, and responds positively to requests for help. Collaborates to foster healthy relationships within the work environment and provides guidance to the interprofessional health care team when appropriate.

Uses therapeutic communication, including active listening and teaching, to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional care team to collaborate on the plan of care. Communicates and reports pertinent patient care information and data.

Teaches and provides guidance to nursing and support staff; orients new team members and assists with precepting students in clinical rotations and clinical fellow programs.

Service Essential Functions

Conducts complete and comprehensive patient evaluations across a broad range of diagnoses and acuities to determine the treatment plan and plan of care; provides services to complex patient populations.

Provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers and evaluates comprehension to adapt teaching methods; serves as a resource to clinical fellows and nursing staff for best practices.

Collaborates with the healthcare team on treatment plan modifications, progress, and discharge planning to achieve patient-specific goals; advocates for patients and families as needed.

Balances caseloads and initiates improvements to enhance patient care and department scores for patient satisfaction through peer-to-peer accountability and service standards.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions

Regularly assesses patients, monitors progress toward goals, and modifies plans as indicated; identifies and address complications or limitations to optimize outcomes.

Provides oversight of PT-related activities by the interprofessional team when necessary and adjusts plans to maintain safety and quality of outcomes.

Identifies opportunities for corrective action and supports process improvement with evidence-based recommendations; contributes to development of treatment protocols and best practices to achieve patient safety outcomes with accurate documentation.

Finance Essential Functions

Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient education and procedures; enters accurate charges as applicable.

Uses resources efficiently to maximize time and equipment utilization; manages time effectively, minimizes incidental overtime, and supports team tasks.

Growth/Innovation Essential Functions

Initiates innovative solutions through evidence-based practice and performance improvement projects; may lead department projects or hospital committees.

Identifies opportunities for innovation and efficiency in patient care or unit operations using evidence-based practice; assists in program development and clinical competencies.

Pursues ongoing professional development and maintains development plans; engages in career discussions with management as needed.

Education

Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).

Work Experience

Two years of experience as a Physical Therapist; or completion of HM or comparable Physical Therapy Residency program.

Licenses and Certifications - Required

BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) AND

PT - Physical Therapist - State Licensure (Texas); compact license acceptable per ECPTOTE requirements within 90 days

Demonstrates the skills and competencies to perform the assigned job safely; ongoing assessments and performance evaluations determine competency.

Proficient in spoken, reading, and written English as it relates to job duties and patient safety.

Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers with a customer service focus.

Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Ability to function independently and handle challenging therapy procedures and patient care situations.

Sound judgement in interactions with physicians, interprofessional teams, patients, and families.

Proficient computer skills and the ability to use standard rehabilitation equipment.
