Shift: Day; Travel: Up to 5%; Telework: Not Eligible for Telework. This role is part of the Health & Human Services Commission, Plant Maintenance department, with a focus on highly advanced restoration, renovation, building maintenance and construction work in designated skilled trades. The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. Responsibilities
Performs highly advanced (senior-level) restoration, renovation, building maintenance and construction work in a designated skilled trade. Work involves renovation, restoration, alteration, making inspections, adjustments, installations, maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, dependent on the trade and operating motorized equipment, requisitioning material and supplies; and maintaining records. Process paperwork related to work orders, projects and material requisitions. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime. May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility. Perform inspections, adjustments, maintenance and repair work on building systems for plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting and electrical; demonstrate use of hand tools and equipment; evaluate and determine the best method for maintenance and repair. Perform repairs and renovations to modernize buildings or adapt to new uses; design projects to conform to codes and standards; identify information, materials and assembly details; ensure tools and manpower are available; conduct in-process inspections. Select appropriate materials to replace and repair building systems; recognize and diagnose failures; determine corrective actions. Act as a lead worker on construction, maintenance or repair projects; establish work schedules, assign staff, and oversee repairs or renovations. Maintain safe and uninterrupted services to campus operations; recognize deterioration and establish repair needs. Use hand tools, power tools, and tests safety equipment; process paperwork on work orders, projects and requisitions. May operate machinery (e.g., backhoes, forklifts) as necessary and demonstrate machinery use; may train others and maintain training records. Other duties may include disaster response, COOP activation, and related on-call responsibilities. Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs) : Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and operations of buildings and systems; knowledge of electronics, boilers, painting, plastering, carpentry, building materials, plumbing, electrical fixtures, welding, HVAC, sanitation and refrigeration; knowledge of industrial safety and regulations. Skills: use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment; preventative maintenance and inspections; interpret drawings and schematics; organize preventive maintenance programs; supervise others; work independently or with a team; communicate effectively. Registrations, Licensure or Certifications: Valid TX driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days; ability to drive as required by program area; out-of-state driving record acceptable with certified record. Education/Experience: High School diploma, GED, or relevant work experience in masonry, carpentry, painting, repairs, renovations or preventative maintenance; vocational training preferred. Physical and Work Environment Requirements
May require on-call, overtime, weekends and holidays; may require travel up to 5%. Random drug testing; fingerprint background check; pre-employment drug screen; registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, LEIE).
