This Engineer IV will manage the Division of Power (DOP) Distribution Engineering Section. The position oversees the engineering of distribution power systems within DOP and will supervise lower-level Engineering and paraprofessional staff.

Work performed by this group includes managing large capital projects utilizing consultants for substation, transmission, and distribution improvements. The group is also responsible for new power service customer development, upgrades, and outages. The group works closely with operations staff to resolve day to day technical issues and make medium to long-term maintenance plans.

The group has field personnel to survey and inspect new and existing work. The group also manages the power monitoring software and coordinates communication and security improvements. This position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills to coordinate between Engineering Design, Operations, Project Management, and scheduling.

Preferred Qualifications or Training

Electrical engineering degree or experience in power substation and/or distribution design.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the activities of an engineering unit involved in planning, design, construction, maintenance, or operation of Capital Improvement Projects and/or private developments.

Supervise professional engineers and managerial staff involved in responsible engineering activities and studies; direct the development of standards for operating procedures and for elements in engineering design.

Provide instruction to professional and paraprofessional engineering personnel.

Design and prepare, or direct others in the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts for highly‑complex and/or specialized public works projects, construction, and/or maintenance projects.

Review and make recommendations regarding engineering plans and changes to plans.

Provide engineering guidance in the development of long‑range plans for departmental projects or capital improvements.

Confere with superiors, contractors, and property owners regarding problems associated with engineering projects.

Represent the division by speaking about engineering projects and solutions in meetings with a variety of audiences such as special project and area civic associations, state, county, and municipal organizations, consulting engineering groups, and contractors.

Prepare narrative or technical reports regarding engineering projects or programs such as those for the Environmental Protection Agency, Smart City, or for stakeholder reviews.

Initiate correspondence; maintain comprehensive engineering files.

Prepare data for CIP and operating budget.

Administer consultant contracts; prepare contract modifications as necessary.Stay abreast of current engineering principles.

Maintain possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer and five (5) years of experience as a Professional Engineer in responsible charge of engineering work, two (2) years of which must have been supervisory over Professional Engineers or multiple major engineering projects.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Special Note Professional experience is defined as responsible and significant engineering work performed after registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
