Overview
CFD Research Corporation is adding a talented Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling & Simulation (MnS) Engineer to support high speed ground test facilities and related programs. This role involves conducting CFD analyses using Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+, automating simulations on HPC systems, post-processing results, and presenting findings to the team and customers. Some on-site work is required at the Hollywood, AL facility (approximately 1 day per month). Responsibilities
Perform CFD analyses using STAR-CCM+ to support design decisions for high-speed hardware and propulsion-related test facilities. Automate simulations where possible; run on HPC systems with batch schedulers; rapidly post-process results. Present results to engineering managers and customers; participate in weekly technical reviews; assist in debugging and troubleshooting of simulations. Decompose program objectives into discrete simulation tasks and review simulation results with the team. Collaborate with hardware teams at the Engineering and Test Center in Hollywood, AL. Travel approximately 1 day per month to the Hollywood facility to support coordination and relationships across teams. Basic Qualifications
US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering 8+ years of engineering experience (at least 6 in Modeling & Simulation) Experience with STAR-CCM+ Experience modeling chemically reacting flows Strong foundation in compressible flows, specifically internal flows Background in thermofluids and heat transfer Experience with batch scripting on cluster computers Above-average skill writing extensible Python scripts to automatically parse and plot simulation results Desired Qualifications
An active secret security clearance Masters or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Experience modeling fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and/or fluid-thermal-structure interaction (FTSI) Familiarity with other CFD tools including CREATE Kestrel, CREATE Helios, Fun3D, Loci-Chem Familiarity with Git and the Java programming language Benefits
