Overview
Lab Support Technician, Outreach Operations, Full Time, First Shift – UC Health. UC Health is hiring a full-time Lab Support Technician for the Outreach Laboratory Service, First Shift, at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The Lab Support Technician performs activities within the Patient Service Centers of the Outreach Laboratory Service, including patient registration, specimen collection, pre-analytic processing, client profile setup and maintenance, client services and problem-solving, and other support functions to ensure the Center is ready to receive and care for patients on a daily basis. Responsibilities
Receives orders; reviews patient demographics and insurance information using information in LastWord, Centricity or information provided by the patient. Completes registration and order entry into Horizon for tests per established protocols. For Medicare patients, performs ABN check; if needed, explains options and assists patient to complete forms. Answers the phone promptly and courteously; identifies oneself to the caller. Uses proper pronunciation of medical terms; completes all required department logs and documentation. Reviews Lab requisitions for completeness (ABN, ICD9, patient demographics). Resolves problems identified in an appropriate manner; handles phone requests with minimal transfers. Performs filing and participates in the orientation of new hires in Outreach Laboratory Service. Prepares service center for daily activity: opens in the morning, secures at end of day, sets up draw sites, cleans and prepares for next day/shift; completes all paperwork and documentation. Facilitates the billing process by ensuring all required information and forms are completed. Coordinates workflow to ensure specimens, paperwork, and documentation (medical records and billing) are handled in a timely manner. Demonstrates excellent customer service with patients and clients; resolves issues; escalates when necessary. Troubleshoots problems; develops and maintains physician/office profiles and updates contact information; initiates profiles for new physicians/offices; investigates ambiguous test orders with the ordering physician or main lab. Performs venipunctures and other specimen collections as needed; performs POC testing as needed. Follows established collection and patient identifier protocols; adheres to safety policies and procedures; maintains sample integrity and minimizes lost samples through proper logging. Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required; completion of formal phlebotomy program or equivalent preferred; phlebotomy experience preferred. Ability to read and comprehend written information; ability to perform a variety of duties in a stressful, fast-paced environment; solid technology and computer skills with knowledge of or ability to learn multiple information systems (Centricity, LastWord, Horizon, Epic). Phlebotomy certification is preferred. About UC Health
