Church Planter - The Episcopal Diocese of Texas
Reporting:
The position reports to the Canon for Mission Amplification, who serves on behalf of the Bishop Diocesan.
Summary:
The planter is a spiritual leader responsible for developing a worshiping community in the Episcopal tradition within a city, town, or neighborhood. The role involves evangelism, ministry of presence, building relationships with neighborhood leaders, and participating in community activities.
Primary Tasks:
Gather a community as a local expression of the Body of Christ for discipleship, worship, and service.
Build relationships with persons and institutions within the local community.
Provide meaningful worship, spiritual formation, and service for the unchurched in a specific context.
Identify and equip leaders for ministry.
Develop systems within the fellowship to support movement towards mission status, with the eventual goal of parish status.
Perform administrative tasks including goal setting and evaluative reports of ministry initiatives.
Maintain ministry partnerships within the diocese and participate in diocesan life.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Compelling spiritual life and a passion for the Gospel.
Ability to communicate the Gospel in engaging and relevant ways.
Spiritual maturity, self-awareness, and authenticity.
Ability to lead, organize, and equip others in ministry.
Leadership through change.
Willingness and ability to be vocationally flexible.
Ability to develop rapport with diverse groups.
Collaboration skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with social media tools to promote ministry.
Professional accountability and transparency.
Required Education & Experience:
Ordination in the Episcopal Church or a church in communion with it.
MDiv or equivalent Master's Degree.
Demonstrated ability to gather community and start ministry.
Two or more years of leadership experience.
