Research Compliance Analyst role at University of California, Santa Cruz. This recruitment includes two positions within the Office of Research Compliance Administration (ORCA): one with an IRB focus and one with an IACUC/Animal Welfare focus. The position may be hybrid or remote, subject to telecommuting terms and ORCA leadership needs. Preference for hybrid work. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director for ORCA, the Research Compliance Analyst supports activities of the IACUC and IRB, working with Committee Chairs and members, research support units, faculty, and personnel. The role provides oversight and coordination for ORCA’s research compliance activities with a primary focus on IACUC and IRB operations, including protocol submission reviews, education and outreach, and policy/procedure development and maintenance. The position may support other areas of research compliance and participate in cross-training as needed. Responsibilities
Apply advanced research compliance concepts to interpret and apply a wide variety of highly complex policies, regulations and guidelines governing research compliance, and/or disclosures. Advise faculty on research compliance and other highly complex issues for research projects. Communicate with researchers and committee members, providing guidance to resolve complex issues and meet external regulatory requirements. Manage highly complex research compliance issues/investigations (e.g., incidents of noncompliance, adverse events, anonymous reporting) and conduct protocol and agreement congruency reviews. Ensure all actions are properly documented in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Develop, coordinate, and conduct post-approval monitoring activities. Review protocol submissions and provide feedback toward successful protocol approval and ongoing management. Independently evaluate whether proposed protocols meet federal compliance requirements. Manage ongoing protocol reviews and inquiries. Develop training materials and conduct training for departments on relevant compliance issues, processes, forms, and policies. Deliver training via in-person or Zoom sessions, online educational materials, printed materials, and other web-based resources. Draft and revise operating procedures, policies, and guidelines; assist in preparing institutional compliance documents and reports (e.g., OLAW, USDA, AAALAC, CARE-Q, FWA). Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and guidelines. Serve as a technical leader, mentor other research compliance analysts, and participate in cross-training and transactional support as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical, social, or behavioral science field or equivalent experience/training. Advanced knowledge of applicable federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and guidance. Advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design and terminology. Demonstrated self-discipline and independent judgment completing highly complex assignments. Strong public speaking, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with computer systems and software used in protocol submission workflow management. Ability to manage a high-volume, detail-driven, regulated program and prioritize tasks with deadlines. Certification as an IRB professional (CIP) or IACUC Administration (CPIA) or eligibility and completion within 1 year. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a related area. Experience in higher education research compliance. Experience working in the University of California system. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must complete required training within set timeframes, including UC compliance training.
