Job Description
Central Life Sciences is searching for a Logistics Planner in our Council Bluffs, IA location. The Logistics Planner is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and optimizing the movement of goods across the supply chain. This role ensures timely and cost-effective deliveries while maintaining high service standards, regulatory compliance, and efficient use of resources. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of transportation and distribution processes.
Key Responsibilities Planning & Coordination
Develop and optimize transportation and distribution schedules.
Align logistics planning with production, sales forecasts, and inventory needs.
Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
Execution & Monitoring
Track shipments and resolve delivery issues or delays.
Provide carriers and warehouse teams with accurate routing instructions.
Manage capacity planning to balance service levels and costs.
Cost Control & Optimization
Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for savings.
Recommend routing, mode selection, and load consolidation improvements.
Freight Audit & Pay
Review and validate freight invoices for accuracy in rates, accessorial charges, and terms.
Reconcile billing discrepancies with carriers and resolve disputes in a timely manner.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of freight payments in coordination with accounting/finance.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure shipments meet federal, state, and international regulations.
Maintain proper documentation for customs, hazardous materials, and import/export compliance.
Promote safe handling, storage, and transportation of goods.
Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate logistics records and KPIs.
Utilize TMS/ERP software to track shipments and analyze performance.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with procurement, sales, and warehouse teams to support business goals.
Resolve delivery issues in coordination with customer service teams.
Participate in cross-functional initiatives to enhance supply chain performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
Experience with TMS, ERP, or logistics software is a plus.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance standards.
Working Conditions
Primarily office environment with occasional need to work in non-climate-controlled warehouse.
