Position Overview The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful execution of projects by collaborating with project managers, cross‑functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders. This role assists in coordinating project activities, maintaining documentation, tracking progress, and ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

Works with the Project Manager, project team, and other management to assist them in all phases and aspects of a project.

Ensures projects are set up correctly and that proper tools are in place prior to the beginning of a project.

Secures all necessary permits requested by the Project Manager, and ensures contracts, insurance, and bonds are current before any subcontractor performs work on site.

Leads the project team’s work efforts in harmony with competing priorities within the company.

Provides leadership and guidance to assigned projects, ensuring objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.

Gives work direction, prepares and distributes project schedules, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.

Identifies issues for early resolution.

Determines and selects corrective action and workaround solutions whenever deviations from the project plan are identified.

Informs the Project Manager and appropriate management of issues and remediation plans.

Ensures compliance with all applicable safety and health rules and regulations, company policies, and procedures.

Provides the Project Manager with recommendations for improving tracking, reporting, and monitoring of projects.

Assists in preparation of periodic management reports.

May attend meetings on behalf of the Project Manager.

May train staff, evaluate performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Collaborates with the Project Manager to provide technical assistance to ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, ICC), specifications, and industry best practices.

Prepares reports and technical documents for internal and external stakeholders.

Participates in cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, laboratory, safety, and operational teams.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

For non‑degreed candidates: 3+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, or construction materials testing (CMT) and inspection.

Certifications in relevant inspection or testing areas preferred (e.g., ACI, ICC, ATTI, Nuclear Safety).

Strong knowledge of construction materials testing standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.) and ability to interpret technical specifications.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry‑specific platforms (e.g., project management, data reporting systems).

Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.

Willingness to travel to job sites and work in diverse environmental conditions.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and interface with clients and regulatory bodies effectively.

Travel Requirements This position does not require regular travel as part of its primary responsibilities. Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, for off‑site meetings, training sessions, or company events. Travel will be communicated in advance and aligned with business needs.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

On‑Site Office Requirements: Work is performed at a desk for extended periods using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment in a climate‑controlled office environment.

Regular in‑person communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders is required.

Physical demands may include sitting for long durations, occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials up to 15 pounds.

Field Environment: Work at outdoor sites including wetlands, forests, grasslands, construction zones, and undeveloped land.

Travel on foot across uneven, rugged, or obstructed terrain, sometimes in areas inaccessible by vehicle.

Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, rain, or sun.

Possible presence of insects, animals, or natural and man‑made hazards in field environments.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry between 35–75 lbs. of equipment or samples over distances up to 75 feet.

Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate lab and field equipment for extended periods.

Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance as needed during both lab and field work.

Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats in varied environments, often while wearing PPE.

Ability to use sensory capabilities to see (including close and distant vision, color perception, depth perception, and focus) and smell for observation and safety purposes.
