The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an
Assistant Facility Manager
to manage a year‑round aquatic facility, cultivate community relationships, interact with patrons of the facility daily, and support the dynamic programming at Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center. The Assistant Facility Manager will report to the General Manager and work with other assistant managers to oversee customer service representatives and lifeguards.
The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center includes a 50‑meter pool with diving boards and a whirlpool. The 50‑meter pool is World Aquatics compliant for long and short course competitive swimming, water polo, and synchronized swimming. The facility also houses a leisure pool, which includes a splash pad for tots and a water slide. In addition, the center has an 8,000‑sq. ft. fitness center with an open fitness area for cardio and weight training and an area for group fitness classes in an exercise studio as well as multiple community rooms available to reserve for meetings and gatherings.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily activities of the facility, including supervising lifeguards, front desk staff, and Customer Service Representatives.
Hire, train, and certify lifeguards and other facility operations staff.
Support aquatic programming and facility management, ensuring compliance with water safety and general standards enforced by local, state, and federal regulations.
Submit facility maintenance requests and incident reports, including reporting unsafe conditions/equipment, pump room maintenance, chemical readings, and balancing and filtration.
Ensure facility staff is adequate and building safety measures are in accordance.
Manage reservations, large registration events, and marketing communications using RecTrac and MS Office Suite.
Respond to customer questions about the facility, inform customers of facility availability and proper fitness equipment use, and conduct facility tours.
Follow safety and security procedures when purchasing for department and handling cash.
Provide arrangement and breakdown of events and programs in the facility.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
One (1) year of experience managing or administering recreation aquatics facilities or programs in a large multi‑service‑based aquatics facility.
Substitution Additional education may be substituted for experience, or additional experience may substitute for education.
Desirable Experience
Managing staff and recreational aquatics facilities and programs in a local government setting.
Using RecTrac or similar web‑based scheduling, registration, and payment system.
Using MS Word and Excel.
Knowledge of lifeguarding and pool safety practices.
Event management skills.
Preferred Certifications
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
Facility Management Professional (FMP).
Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).
Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI).
Special Requirements Applicants must attach a resume to the application. The selected candidate must possess valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 60 days of hire.
The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and will be required to provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the official driving record. A pre‑employment criminal records check will be conducted.
