Position Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Tax Specialist to join their team and ensure accurate compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role combines technical expertise with client service excellence, requiring strong analytical skills and the ability to navigate complex tax requirements while supporting HCM software clients. How You'll Make an Impact
Tax Compliance & Filing
Reconcile and file monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll withholding tax returns, including preparation of amended returns when necessary Execute EFTPS and other tax payments for state and local taxing entities with precision and timeliness Maintain current expertise on tax requirements across federal, state, and local jurisdictions Client Support & Software Management
Ensure clients' tax configurations within the HCM software platform are accurate and fully compliant with applicable regulations Perform comprehensive tax balancing and system setup for both new client implementations and existing client modifications Provide expert guidance and resolution support to clients on complex tax-related inquiries and issues Proactive Tax Management
Monitor evolving tax legislation and assess potential impacts on the software platform and client base Handle urgent tax issues and regulatory notices with appropriate escalation and resolution protocols Conduct thorough follow-up procedures to ensure complete problem resolution and maintain clear communication with clients and internal specialists Process Improvement & Team Collaboration
Identify, document, and analyze recurring issues and trends, developing strategic recommendations to prevent future occurrences Actively contribute as a collaborative team member, providing backup support for specialists and cross-functional coverage as business needs require Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned to support department objectives What You Bring to the Role
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent professional experience in payroll, accounting, or taxation Master's degree or professional certifications (CPP, EA, or similar) strongly preferred 1-3 years of hands-on experience preparing and filing payroll tax returns Technical Expertise
Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and Local withholding tax requirements, including income tax, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, and related obligations Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formula creation and data analysis (macro experience highly valued) Basic competency in PDF form creation and maintenance processes Core Competencies
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly Superior organizational abilities with systematic follow-up and project management skills Outstanding attention to detail and analytical problem-solving capabilities Adaptability and resilience in dynamic, fast-changing work environments Client service orientation with professional demeanor and solution-focused approach
