Town of Flower Mound
Job Purpose
Plans, promotes, and develops a variety of aquatic programs for all ages, including swim lessons, training programs, and special events. Supervises swim instructors and provides aquatic instruction as needed while assisting in the supervision of Headguards and Lifeguards to ensure safe and efficient facility operations. Assists with pool maintenance and water chemistry to maintain compliance with health and safety standards. Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
Responsibilities
Coordinates instructional swimming classes, aquatic programs, and aquatic special events.
Assists in supervising aquatic staff, including Swim Instructors, Head Lifeguards, and Lifeguards; responsibilities include recruitment, scheduling, performance management, hiring/termination, discipline, and ongoing training and in-service sessions.
Recruits and coordinates contract instructors to teach classes and programs for the Town of Flower Mound.
Oversees the summer swim team program, ensuring compliance with Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) rules and regulations.
Disseminates aquatic program information to patrons.
Performs administrative and operational duties necessary for successful aquatic program operations.
Assists with the operation and maintenance of the pools, including water quality testing, routine maintenance, and facility readiness.
Assists with the distribution, control, and requisition of aquatic equipment and supplies.
Recommends, implements, and enforces policies and procedures related to aquatic operations and safety.
Supports other areas within the Parks and Recreation Department by assisting with special events, recreational programs, facility rentals, and coverage needs in the absence of staff.
Serves as Manager on Duty at the Community Activity Center during scheduled times, including daytime, nights and weekends.
Prepares and submits reports on attendance, , expenses, and revenues; maintains accurate records and program data in the registration system, including rosters, waitlists, and financial transactions.
Informs Supervisor regularly of all work‑related activities.
Adheres to personnel, safety, and departmental policies and procedures.
Assists coworkers and other departments as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, or related field. In lieu of a degree, must have at least four (4) years of relevant work experience in the aquatic and/or recreation field.
Current American Red Cross, Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor certifications, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Must have a state issued driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
Physical Abilities
Ability to talk, see, hear, and read.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities, including swimming, running, kneeling, bending, twisting, dragging, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. of sports and other equipment.
Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.

At least one (1) year of experience working within an aquatics program.
At least one (1) year of experience teaching swim lessons and other aquatic training classes such as certification courses.
Experience with Active Net software and When to Work software.
Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, and Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certifications.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Excellent leadership, organizational, training, and communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to maintain effective and courteous working relationships with the public, employees, and volunteers.
Ability to work various hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
