Job Summary The Underground Streetlight Foreman is responsible for overseeing and directing a crew engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground streetlighting systems within an electric utility service area. This role requires deep knowledge of underground electrical infrastructure, safety regulations, and effective team leadership to ensure high‑quality and timely project execution.
Responsibilities
Obtain all necessary materials for the job and ensure all permits and licenses are in place.
Oversee work related to each project and assume full responsibility for its quality and timeliness.
Ensure compliance with proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or customer standards.
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections.
Disseminate safety briefings and ensure understanding by crew members.
Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members related to digging and placing equipment.
Perform switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following proper safety procedures.
Conduct connecting, disconnecting, installation, removal, and transfer of electrical devices such as transformers, regulator banks, switches, capacitor banks, etc.
Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
Drive, haul, and operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completing work.
Train new hires and trainees in the trade.
Call in utilities located at each project site.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
Preferred
6 or more years of experience, including extensive experience supervising and training skilled labor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and twisting. Work may be performed in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position is physically active, with lifting required up to 50 pounds. Must be able to identify colors and have precise hand‑eye coordination.
