Overview
Analyst / Associate: Equity Research, North American Banks. This role analyzes financial services companies with a global footprint and supports making stock recommendations to generate alpha. Key responsibilities include performing financial and statistical analyses, conducting research, preparing reports, assisting with structuring and modeling transactions, and assessing market trends.
The North American Banks Research team covers 40+ stocks across the US and Canada with over $2 trillion in market capitalization. The team seeks someone with the intellectual curiosity and aptitude to ramp up in a fast-evolving banking sector, which is undergoing secular shifts tied to digital assets, AI, and a shifting regulatory backdrop. The ideal candidate will have 1–4 years of experience in markets or experience focusing on the banking (or financial services) sector. This person will work with Senior Analysts and team members in all aspects from idea generation to company meetings, and will play a critical part in providing financial modeling and qualitative analysis to formulate investment opinions.
Responsibilities
Assists in structuring, pricing, and executing transactions to help develop financing solutions for existing and emerging companies
Conducts analysis of company financial data, news, and other information to identify opportunities and risks related to companies, industries, or financial instruments
Addresses day-to-day sales, trading, and hedging transaction needs, responds to client inquiries, logs, and records data
Assists with the preparation of associated financial models and written reports
Performs complex financial modeling and valuation work
Writes regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch
Develops databases integral to our research product
Demonstrates strong industry knowledge and business judgment
Works with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes
Builds relationships and facilitates information flow with contacts at covered companies
Participates in client meetings and events
Attends meetings and interacts with key opinion leaders
Closely follows and understands market, industry, and company-specific activity
Seeks out new, unusual sources of information
Interacts regularly with clients
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience
1–4 years of experience focusing in equity research, wholesale credit, buy-side experience, or investment banking
Strong writing and modeling skills; proficient in MS Word and MS Excel
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment
Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
Enjoy following the stock market and conducting desktop and field research
Basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Works well in a collaborative team environment
