Responsibilities

Operate end‑dump trucks from 2 to 10 cu. yards with either automatic or manual transmission, equipped with snow plows and sanders.

May operate front‑end loaders, motor graders, snow blowers, equipment trailers, rear & side flail mowers, slope mowers and other related vehicles while performing stated duties.

Perform maintenance of roadside such as irrigation repair, pruning, weeding, litter pickup, spraying herbicide, supervising probationers, and maintenance and repair of brush and tree trimming.

Repair and replace roadside markers, monitor and inspect roadside rest areas, and deliver supplies.

Perform pre‑ and post‑operation checks, make minor and/or emergency repairs and adjustments to equipment, service and clean equipment.

When not operating equipment, perform duties normally assigned to a Caltrans Highway or Landscape Maintenance Worker, using manual labor, power and hand tools, traffic control duties with cones, flares, advance warning signs, and pilot vehicle.

Keep records such as pre‑ and post‑operation reports, repair requests, crew/time reporting forms and material and fuel usage forms.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications listed on the Classification Specification.

Valid Class A Commercial Driver License with N (Tank Vehicle) endorsement and valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Drug screening must be passed prior to hiring.

Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance.

Ability to perform manual labor and use power and hand tools, traffic control, and record keeping.

Ability to supervise probationers and conduct roadside maintenance.
