Overall Purpose and Objective of Position This position is responsible for assisting the Regional Head of Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager in promoting and maintaining the health and wellness of workers. Responsibilities include identifying hazards in the workplace, recommending ways to reduce and prevent hazardous exposures, conducting training for first aid, safety, CPR, and health programs, assisting in the preparation of accident reports and workers’ compensation reports, and developing and following implementation protocols with asset managers.
Work Schedule & Travel 4 days in office, 1 day remote. Requires 50% travel.
Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Manage pre-employment process and physical capacity assessments for every job.
Reduce medical cost/indemnity by facilitating employee return to work.
Guide injured workers through the recovery process, addressing their concerns.
Provide training and education on SHE health & wellness topics.
Coordinate medical examinations with HR/Assets, including annual audiometric testing.
Ensure HIPAA compliance.
Develop medical programs, assessments, and procedures.
Manage medical oversight throughout the process for assets.
Improve health communication across all assets within the region.
Follow up with employees on workers’ compensation matters.
Additional Responsibilities
Protect confidentiality of all employee information.
Develop procedures/forms to ensure adherence to doctor’s orders.
Communicate with management to enforce restrictions and guidance.
Determine eligibility of personnel to return to work per job description criteria.
Education / Professional Certifications / Licenses Undergraduate degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Registered Nurse (RN). 5-10 years’ medical experience supporting operations. Requires approximately 50% travel. Knowledge of facility manufacturing regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA). Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; ability to work with people at all levels. Willingness to travel. Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, and stoop during plant tours and inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of medical experience.
Knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping.
Equipment Used Typical office equipment: PC, telephone, fax machine.
Working Conditions Primarily climate‑controlled office environment. Periodic visits to operation assets with exposure to varying temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. Occasional exposure to dust and odors. Some stair climbing required. Extensions of regular working hours occasionally necessary.
Decision Making / Accountability Accountable for developing, implementing, and auditing program strategies that promote a healthy workplace and well‑being of all employees and surrounding communities. Works with minimal direction, is self‑motivated, and uses a strong understanding of federal and state regulations related to medical management, ensuring compliance, conducting necessary functions, and advising others.
