CHKD Health System operates Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Virginia’s only freestanding, full-service children’s hospital, located in Norfolk, Virginia, and its pediatric practices, multi-service health centers, and urgent care locations throughout southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Nearly 4,500 clinical and non-clinical employees make up Team CHKD – all working together to provide health, healing, and hope for over 425,000 children in our region.
Our clinical laboratory plays a vital role in supporting high-quality pediatric care across CHKD’s network. Laboratory professionals are essential members of our healthcare team, working alongside physicians, nurses, and specialists to provide timely, accurate testing for our pediatric population.

Responsibilities
Performing and assisting with a variety of clinical laboratory test procedures.
Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Functioning in a lead or charge role when assigned to support daily lab operations.
Ensuring compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide accurate and timely results.
Participating in continuous quality improvement and regulatory readiness.
Supporting a safe and efficient work environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications
Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent area of study.
Six to twelve months of laboratory training or experience.
CPR certification required (or must be obtained within 45 days of hire).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize and respond to abnormal or critical results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clinical staff.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.
