Overview Work Status Details: REGULAR FULL TIME | 64.00 Hours Every Two Weeks. Shift: Varied. Pay Rate Type: Hourly. Location: Yuma Regional Medical Ctr.

Summary: The Medical Laboratory Scientist provides comprehensive laboratory testing for patients. The position ensures patient laboratory results are accurate, timely and of high quality. The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs quantitative, qualitative and subjective lab procedures by manual and automated methods for inpatient and outpatient testing across all disciplines of the lab, including Microbiology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Blood Bank, and phlebotomy as needed.

Salary: Min = $30.67, Mid = $38.34, Max = $46.01. The base hiring salary range is offered as part of the total rewards/compensation package. Actual salaries may vary based on skills and experience.

Responsibilities

Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.

Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests with the patient’s condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values. Verifies accuracy of results.

Performs daily instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and resolves specimen integrity problems. Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation and completes appropriate documentation.

Performs specimen collection and interpretation of patient results and quality control data.

Leads and participates in quality assurance, quality improvement activities, and quality control processes. Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis.

Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree OR Associate’s Degree with MLS Certification

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or if the Bachelor’s degree is in another field, at least 60 semester hours with specified course requirements in medical laboratory technology or science.
