Responsibilities The Fire and EMS Lab Instructor Advanced Life Support Paramedic instructs and guides fire and emergency medical services Advanced Life Support and Paramedic students and firefighter students through psychomotor skills introduction, acquisition, reinforcement, mastery and evaluation stages in EMS education programs. Responsibilities include providing simulation activities, tutoring, remedial assistance, feedback to program faculty on skill acquisition and mastery, and supplying instructional resources to meet instructor-to-student ratios for lab/practical skills and simulation. The instructor maintains, inventories, and resets equipment and lab/classroom spaces. May serve as lead lab instructor/mentor to help orient new instructors to College policies, procedures, and expectations, and perform other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments: May be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations.

Qualifications KSA's/Required Qualifications

Current unrestricted certification as a Paramedic (National Registry and/or Virginia Certification).

Knowledge

Knowledge of fire and emergency medical services (essential life support), education standards, and scope of practice.

Knowledge of competency-based educational techniques.

Knowledge of standardized patient concepts, processes, and practices.

Knowledge of curricula and accreditation standards

Skills

Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Ability to

Instruct students through psychomotor skill introduction, acquisition, and evaluation, and provide simulation activities, tutoring, and remedial assistance.

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse educational environment.

Work at all campus and off-campus locations.

Work in adverse environmental conditions.

Work in IDLH atmospheres and situations.

Appropriately don, wear, and doff PPE including coat, pants, boots, gloves, hood, helmet, eye protection, respirator, and SCBA.

Complete new department/program-specific employee entrance and annual in-service training and maintain minimum qualifications and hours per month/semester as established in policies.

Special Instructions / Additional Considerations Current unrestricted certification in any of the following areas: Virginia Firefighter II, Virginia Fire Instructor II, Virginia Firefighter I and II TtT, Virginia Fire Officer I, Virginia 1403 Compliance Officer, Virginia MayDay Firefighter Down TtT, Virginia S3 EVOC TtT, Peninsula Burn Team Training and Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator.

Current instructor-level certifications in: Basics Life Support (AHA-BLS), PHTLS, AHA-ACLS, AHA-PALS, NAEMT EPC, AAP PEPP, AMLS, NAEMT LTC, NAEMT TECC.
