Engineer (Civil/Structural) In-House Design Studio

The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department develops scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions, and renovations for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our in-house studio is a multidisciplinary practice designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. We pursue high-quality, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

Responsibilities
Engineer A : Provide coordination for in-house design projects; perform or supervise the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents; coordinate with internal teams, outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and government agencies; may act as project leader; may direct junior staff; perform design reviews; monitor construction phase; conduct site observations; prepare field reports; supervise submittal reviews; may sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
Engineer B : Supervise lower-level staff; work on more complex projects (large primary/small intermediate schools, special types of buildings, modernizations, large additions, CIP projects); may act as discipline leader; provide mentoring and training; coordinate with consultants and contingent staff; perform design reviews; may assume Architect-A duties when necessary.
Engineer C : Lead multiple, complex construction projects; manage and direct teams of engineers, architects, QA specialists, inspectors, and technicians; ensure project compliance with codes and schedules; perform design reviews; assist in creating new design standards; coordinate with external consultants; may sign, seal and file drawings; may perform duties of Engineer B or A as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education : Baccalaureate Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university/college.
Level A : Valid New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Level B : Valid NYS PE license and three years of post-licensure experience as a PE; two years as a project engineer/leader.
Level C : Valid NYS PE license and six years of post-licensure experience; three years as a project engineer/leader; or equivalent responsibilities.
Current NYS Professional Engineer license must be maintained for all levels.

Salary and Benefits Salary dependent upon experience:
Level A: $80,691 - $125,803
Level B: $94,242 - $146,870
Level C: $99,422 - $161,531
