Athletic Trainer / Sports Medicine Teacher - SY 26/27 Location: Bethel High School

Salary: Teacher scale – commensurate with experience

Important Licensing Requirements

Virginia Department of Education teaching license in Sports Medicine

Virginia Board of Medicine license as an Athletic Trainer, including two years of occupational experience within the last five years

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and implement an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences.

Collaborate within a professional learning community to nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to accelerated student achievement.

Manage learners’ behavior in an instructional setting to ensure a conducive environment. Assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site.

Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff—both school and non‑school based—as required, to maximize learning opportunities.

Participate in staff development activities and staff meetings, curriculum development activities as required or assigned.

Assess student achievement and maintain appropriate documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.

Ensure continuous communication with parents—both written and oral—to keep them informed of their child’s progress.

Communicate with students, parents, and professionals and support personnel inside and outside the school to share information and to support/encourage involvement. Ensure that classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning.

Perform related duties as required or assigned.

Job Requirements

Must possess or be eligible for a teaching license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement to teach Sports Medicine. If not currently licensed by the Virginia Department of Education in Sports Medicine, the position requires a Virginia Board of Medicine Athletic Trainer license, including two years of occupational experience within the last five years.

Excellent organizational, planning, communication, and human relations skills.

Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment appropriate for secondary level instruction.

Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of middle school students.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, and parents.
