Responsibilities

Monitor and document (written and photographic) the work of the contractor on a daily basis via electronic Inspection Daily Report. Coordinate the work with the activities and responsibilities of the Client.

Perform full-time, detailed inspection of all construction work to assure quality workmanship in conformance with contract requirements. The inspection services shall include but may not be limited to checking construction contractor stakeout and grades, erosion and sediment control contract compliance, maintenance of traffic, contract utility coordination and locating of existing facilities utilities as needed, calculating quantities, inspecting onsite materials, sampling and materials testing, soil, aggregate and hot mix asphalt compaction tests, final measurements of the completed work, and other duties as assigned.

Maintain neat, accurate, and organized records of contract items and quantities completed by the construction contractors, as per MSHA’s Construction Manual. The records shall include all diaries, sketches, measurements, and computations of quantities.

Review the safety programs of contractors and when necessary, make appropriate recommendations to the contractor and the SHA Project and Safety Managers for corrective action.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience/Skills

Candidates shall possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience in highway construction management including oversight of inspection staff.

Construction inspection experience shall include:

Erosion & sediment control,

Earthwork operations,

Construction in/around flowing streams,

Storm drainage systems,

HMA paving

Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and device skills for working in the MDOT e-Construction environment

Ability to read and interpret project plans and contract specifications.

Ability to prepare simple drawings, detailed reports and maintain project records.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

MDE Responsible Personnel Certification (Green Card - Erosion & Sediment Control)

MSHA Erosion & Sediment Control Certification (Yellow Card)

MSHA Temporary Traffic Control Training

MARTCP Soils & Aggregate Compaction

MARTCP Concrete Field Technician

MARTCP HMA Field Technician
