Overview
We are hiring a Rental Field Service Technician in Richmond, Virginia. Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., provides maintenance and repairs for Caterpillar and allied rental equipment in the shop and at customer job sites. The technician applies basic mechanical aptitude, performs troubleshooting, determines proper repair procedures, and prepares parts requisitions.
Sign-on bonus : We are offering up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus for eligible new hires. Details include: $2,500 payable after 90 days of employment and $2,500 payable after 180 days of employment. Minimum three years of relevant heavy equipment field experience qualifies for the full $5,000 bonus; candidates with less than 3 years may qualify for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are paid in two equal installments at 90 and 180 days of employment.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar and allied rental equipment in the shop and at customer job sites.
Apply troubleshooting techniques and determine proper repair procedures.
Prepare parts requisitions and maintain appropriate documentation.

Requirements
Must have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Must have basic mechanical aptitude.
Must be able to perform repairs safely.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be able to interact professionally with customers and all levels of personnel.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Self-directed, well organized, and able to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service.
Ability to learn and apply new knowledge; proficient in technical software, databases and manuals.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent driving record; ability to obtain a CDL and/or DOT certification.
Ability to work any shift and overtime as needed.
Demonstrates commitment to safe work practices.
Physical Requirements Job requires standing, walking, manual dexterity, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, talking, and hearing. The employee is frequently required to sit and lift up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
