Job Summary Performs complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer’s facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, establishing LOTO, interacting with customers, report writing, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.

Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and write diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.

Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.

Lead the following testing tasks:

Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.

Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, t and delta, hypothesis, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.

Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.

Test both electrical‑mechanical and solid‑state relays.

Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

Plan, participate, and develop safety meetings and training.

Support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.

Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.

Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.

Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.

Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.

Ability to work independently while utilizing excellent judgment.

Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.

Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.

Demonstrates organizational skills to include on‑time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements.

Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.

Must Be Willing To

Relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.

Work during corporate business hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑4:30 pm, but also be available outside of those hours as required.

Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.

Work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.

Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Education and Work Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.

At least 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning required.

Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment.

Project management experience and ability to support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.

Other Requirements

Must be able to pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.

Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26 k lbs.

Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.

Must be willing to obtain a company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
