Job Summary Assistant Worship Arts Director/Organist will support the Worship Arts Ministry at FUMC Dothan, playing organ and piano at services, leading rehearsals for ensembles, providing musical leadership and coordinating organ maintenance, etc.

Responsibilities

Provide organ music for Sunday morning worship services and additional services per the liturgical year, weddings and funeral services (additional compensation).

Provide musical leadership for other worship services such as Staff Chapel Communion.

Serve as accompanist for the Chancel Choir and other ensembles; attend weekly rehearsals.

Supervise Volunteer Music Librarians and assist Worship Arts Director in maintaining the Music Library.

Arrange substitute organist when necessary.

Maintain and oversee upkeep of Sanctuary and Chapel organs and all pianos on campus.

Attend weekly staff meetings and worship planning meetings.

Oversee, develop, and conduct the handbell program; assist in directing Children’s Chimes.

Offer piano and organ lessons through the church for additional compensation.

Assist worship director in organizing the annual Summer Worship Arts Camp.

Qualifications & Requirements

High level of artistry and proficiency on piano and organ.

Excellent sight‑reading skills.

Ability to accompany large choral singing, chamber ensembles, and soloists.

Comfort with a wide variety of musical styles including traditional Methodist hymnody, Taize, classical choir repertoire, African‑American spirituals, Southern & Black gospel, world music.

Extensive repertoire covering all seasons of the liturgical year.

Self‑motivated, creative, and strong interpersonal skills.

Professional demeanor, supportive of United Methodist theology, and collaborative team player.

Bachelor’s degree in organ performance or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 3 years of experience, 5 preferred.

Maximum ten‑hour commitment to weekly services and rehearsals.
