Overview
We are seeking a detail-driven and collaborative Product Design Engineer to help drive the design, documentation, and manufacturing success of our precision-engineered commutators and slip rings. In this role, you’ll serve as a vital link between customer needs and internal manufacturing capabilities, developing custom part designs, supporting production workflows, and leading continuous improvement efforts across the full product lifecycle.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced engineering environment ideal for professionals who enjoy low-volume, high-skill custom product work. You’ll collaborate with machinists, production leads, and quality engineers to ensure every component meets rigorous technical standards while remaining manufacturable and cost-effective.

Responsibilities Custom Product Design
Develop detailed part and assembly drawings for commutator products using CAD software (AutoCAD or equivalent)
Interpret customer specifications, internal design rules, and industry standards to create manufacturable designs
Apply appropriate tolerances and GD&T callouts to ensure precision and quality
Customer-Facing Engineering
Support Sales and Customer Service during quoting, design reviews, and technical conversations
Recommend design changes or alternatives to improve manufacturability, performance, or cost-effectiveness
Participate in customer calls and contribute to building ICC’s reputation for technical excellence and responsiveness
Manufacturing & Process Support
Partner with production and machining teams to troubleshoot issues and implement design updates
Collaborate cross-functionally to address and resolve production challenges as parts move through the manufacturing process
Implement corrective actions and engineering changes based on shop floor feedback
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and project documentation
Support root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operations
Contribute to the development of internal design guidelines and standards
Qualifications Required
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
4+ years of experience in a product or manufacturing engineering environment
Strong proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks and AutoCAD)
Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and applying tolerances
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills
Preferred
Experience with rotating equipment, motors, or commutator-based products
Exposure to precision machining, fabrication, and low-volume custom manufacturing
Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM/routing management
Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
