The Natural Bridge Branch is seeking a part-time Teen Engagement Specialist to perform a variety of teen programming and outreach duties with an emphasis on daily, positive interactions with teens. This position will also provide excellent customer service and circulation duties to meet the needs of Library patrons. The mission of the St. Louis County Library is to provide the resources and services to enrich individual minds, enhance lives and expand perspectives. SLCL is an award-winning library system with branches throughout St. Louis County. We have transformed into a meaningful community resource with updated facilities and an array of programs and partnerships that serve over 860,000 patrons. Hours:

20 hours per week Monday - Thursday: 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional Saturdays In the course of the work day, develops a rapport with patrons, especially teens, in order to bring about positive behavioral outcomes based on respect. Observes library activity to promote responsible use of the library. Works to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. Educates patrons on the Library’s Code of Conduct and contributes to the resolution of Code of Conduct issues as they arise. Identifies community needs at the branch level and focuses on relationship building and customer service to a diverse group of teens, as well as their caregivers and educators. In cooperation with the Youth Specialist/Youth Librarian, organizes and participates in programming and outreach, with teens as a primary focus, that encourages participation and redirects from unwelcome activities. Supports all patrons in use of the library. Job Qualifications: High School Diploma Must possess a commitment to a high level of public service to Library patrons Must possess excellent communication and organization skills Experience working with teenagers is preferred. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people in differing circumstances. Ability to use sound judgment to detect unusual, harmful, or emergency situations. Ability to think analytically, resolve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity. Ability to diffuse and de-escalate situations proactively. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift Ability to bend very low shelves or reach to very high shelves when retrieving library materials Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. Ability to push a full cart of books or other Library materials Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to operate various types of Library equipment Ability to use a pc, word processing, and e-mail
