Job Overview
Join the Stantec Environmental Services Practice as an On‑Call Biologist in Northern California. Provide as‑needed biological support on multiple projects, including writing reports, field surveys, habitat assessments, and environmental compliance monitoring. Base location: Redding or Chico offices.
Key Responsibilities
Assist or lead fieldwork assignments: nesting bird surveys, vegetation community assessments, wetland delineation & classification, special‑status plant & wildlife surveys, and compliance monitoring.
Communicate with team leads, project managers, construction crews, clients, and stakeholders.
Prepare daily monitoring and field reports.
Support environmental permitting activities across California.
Requirements & Credentials
Self‑starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of California ecosystems and endangered or protected species.
Proficiency in reviewing scientific data, maps, and drawings.
Experience in biological fieldwork: nesting bird surveys, vegetation assessments, wetland delineations, special‑status surveys, restoration monitoring, and construction activity monitoring.
Ability to work independently and in a team, building positive relationships.
Strong commitment to safety and participation in Stantec’s safety programs.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred: 1–4 years of biological field experience, understanding of Federal and State environmental requirements, nesting bird survey experience, special‑status species survey experience, botany experience, wetland delineation experience, 10(a)(1)(A) permits.
Minimum: BA/BS in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or related field.
Education & Experience Minimum: BA/BS in a relevant science discipline.
Location & Travel Primary location: Chico, CA. Some travel within California required. Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Employment Temporary, part‑time. Pay Range: $49,100 – $68,700 (CA). Additional benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), stock purchase program, life insurance, paid family leave, and vacation accrual.
