This position is responsible for following established procedures and protocols. The Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. The scope of the position includes explaining procedures to patients, accurately operating all imaging equipment, demonstrating clinical and age-specific competencies in performing all diagnostic procedures, and selecting accurate technical factors for optimal image quality. The Technologist is responsible for practicing radiation safety during the operation of radiation-emitting equipment. Additionally, the Technologist demonstrates the ability to review images for interpretation.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Maintains certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Essential Functions
Reviews and accurately interprets physician orders for diagnostic x-ray procedures
Validates patient identification before performing any diagnostic x-ray procedure
Communicates with patients to obtain relevant medical history and ensures patient well-being during procedures
Ensures all imaging equipment and procedure rooms are in proper working condition with correct technical settings
Explains procedures to patients to facilitate cooperation and reduce anxiety, ensuring comfort and safety
Assumes responsibility for patient care during imaging, including infection control
Follows established protocols and policies for diagnostic x-ray procedures
Demonstrates competence in collimation, patient positioning, and radiation safety to minimize exposure
Practices radiation safety for patients, visitors, and staff
Critiques images for quality assurance and interpretation
Participates in Quality Assurance programs, maintaining logs and documentation for tracking and surveys
Recognizes priorities and addresses them promptly
Builds and maintains cooperative relationships within the department and facility
Willing to learn new procedures and assist in other areas as needed
Participates in standby call shifts to support departmental needs
Provides radiologic studies under surgical direction and collaborates with the Director of Radiology to comply with hospital, Department of Health, and DNV regulations
Maintains the hospital TLD program
Physical Demands
Employees must meet physical requirements to perform essential functions, with accommodations available for disabilities. The role involves frequent sitting, talking, listening, handling objects, reaching, and specific vision abilities. Employees must be able to lift and carry over 20 pounds, push/pull over 25 pounds regularly, and stand or walk at least five hours daily.
