Overview
School Based Behavioral Health School Clinician - Meriden Elementary Schools. This is a full-time salaried position in a school-based clinic as a CHC employee. The role performs diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, develops care plans with clients and families, offers individual, family, or group therapy as appropriate, and collaborates with psychiatric and/or medical providers who are part of the client’s care team. Documentation is in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations. The position is primarily focused on direct client care and may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students. The school calendar mirrors the district schedule (195 days per year). Responsibilities
Completes initial behavioral health evaluations; provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic. Runs multiple groups per week (at least five groups per week of direct clinical work). Practices as part of an interdisciplinary team, accepts warm hand-offs from primary care providers and other health care team members, and identifies patients potentially in need of Behavioral Health services as flagged by the BH clinical dashboard. Consults with providers within and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and progress. Coordinates with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refers as necessary for medication management. Attends clinical Team Meetings and Component Meetings as assigned. Meets productivity standards as outlined in annual performance reviews, with a focus on quality clinical care. Encourages clients to express their feelings and discuss life events to develop insight into themselves or relationships. Performs crisis interventions and assesses immediate safety concerns (including homicide, suicide, and domestic violence risks). Guides clients in developing skills or strategies to achieve identified goals; develops and implements treatment plans in line with state regulatory and Joint Commission standards. Evaluates treatment effectiveness and adjusts activities as needed; discusses plans for life after therapy with clients. Works with and supports family members to aid understanding and support for clients; stays informed about new developments in the field. Gathers information about community mental health needs or resources to supplement therapy; may supervise student interns or staff working toward licensure (licensed clinicians may supervise; unlicensed clinicians pursue licensure). Administrative Responsibilities
Completes all required documentation according to state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC policies in a timely manner (intake, prior authorization requests, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge documentation). Completes and locks all treatment notes by the end of the next business day. Completes reports for outside agencies (e.g., DCF, Family Relations, probation) with appropriate client releases. Participates as a member of agency-wide committees as assigned. Qualifications
Licensure/Certification/Registration: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Connecticut preferred; or license-eligible with current Associate license (MLSW, PC-A, MFT-A) with ability to obtain full licensure within 3 years. Professional licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) preferred. Minimum of two years of experience with outpatients, including work with children and/or adults. Theoretical orientation aligned with brief, problem-focused therapy. Reliable transportation to outside agency visits and meetings. Written and oral bilingual fluency in the language spoken by the patient population (e.g., English/Spanish) preferred. Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Combination of sustained keyboard work, walking, and stair climbing. Minimal lifting and carrying activities. Communication Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Interfacing with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization. Confidentiality of Information
Maintains confidentiality of Behavioral Health information in accordance with CHC policies. Responsible for client data entry and access to medical system information; handles confidential patient correspondence. Organization Information
