The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of

Athletic Trainer .

Definition The Athletic Trainer helps maintain the physical well-being of interscholastic student-athletes through the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic health care program that focuses on injury prevention and provides for injury evaluation and immediate care and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.

Qualifications and Requirements

An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as deemed necessary by the NJ Department of Education.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Must be registered by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners as an Athletic Trainer.

Must hold and maintain CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer.

Show evidence of successful experience in working with student-athletes.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities

Provides immediate care of athletic injuries and ensures follow-up with medical personnel or facilities when necessary according to district policies.

Supervises and maintains the training room.

Works cooperatively with the team physician regarding rehabilitation programs and referrals.

Maintains accurate medical records for injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Coordinates injury reports and medical insurance claims with the school nurse and Athletic Director.

Handles budgeting, purchasing, and inventory of athletic training supplies.

Works with coaches in selecting protective equipment.

Develops and maintains training and conditioning programs for student-athletes.

Provides injury prevention through protective taping, wraps, braces, and practice design.

Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs under physician direction.

Communicates with coaches, parents, and physicians regarding injuries and treatments.

Reviews the effectiveness of injury prevention programs.

Supervises student assistants.

Reports serious injuries to relevant staff.

Provides in-service training on injury prevention and safety twice a year.

Performs other duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.

Reports To DC of Health, PE and Athletics and District Director of Health, PE and Athletics

Salary, Employment Period, and Union

Salary Range: $67,000 to $111,625

Employment Period: Ten (10) months

Union Affiliation: NTU
