This is a contingent position with flexible scheduling. Upon hire, you must be available to train full time during the day for the first week. The lab is state-of-the-art, operating twenty-four hours per day, with over 75,000 cases per year. There are on-site Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Molecular labs and significant opportunities for professional development. Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital This is a part-time contingent role with day training during the first week after hire. Education

Associates Degree in Science or Applied Science (or equivalent) and completion of an accredited training program in Histotechnology. May consider two years histology work experience with an Associate degree in Science OR a High School Diploma and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program. Qualified candidates must meet one or both of the first two requirements. Current HT or HTL ASCP certification preferred. Experience

1-3 years histology experience preferred. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Verifies accuracy of patient information and samples submitted for examination. Accessioning and billing of cytology and surgical specimens through entering data into LIS; orders and prints labels and worklists. Demonstrates proficiency in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and coverslipping of surgical specimens per quality control standards to ensure patient safety. Performs a variety of special stains as requested by the Pathologist. Performs immunohistochemical stains as requested by the Pathologist. Prepares rapid H&E-stained sections for frozen tissue microscopic examination; maintains quality control standards for patient safety. Checks stained slides against paraffin blocks and gross dictation; distributes slides and paperwork to pathologists. Performs quality control on histology equipment; maintains clean and stocked work areas. Handles lab chemicals safely, including recycling, handling, and disposal. Maintains quality control and maintenance records in the pathology lab under supervision. Participates in maintenance of monthly pathology lab statistics. Files and/or pulls slides for conferences and archival storage as needed. Participates in continuing education programs and performs other duties as assigned. Maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, and staff information and adheres to privacy practices.
