Overview

The IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, in conjunction with the Regenstrief Institute, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Specialist for an NIH-funded fellowship in public and population health informatics. This unique post-doctoral program is located on Indiana University’s Indianapolis campus, which is positioned in the health and life sciences hub for Indiana. Our fellowship program aims to attract individuals who want to make the world better and have the innate interest, scientific acumen, and desire to be surrounded by faculty and staff committed to transforming the public and population health care system in the US. The program prepares Research Scientists to design, implement, and evaluate the impact of information technologies on population health in the context of public health and healthcare delivery organizations. The goal is to provide doctoral training for analytical, methodological, and professional skills needed for informatics-oriented research positions in academia, government, and industry, with a focus on scholarly output and preparation for an independent scientist career. The following descriptions reflect the role and expectations of the fellowship program in informatics-focused research within public health and healthcare delivery contexts. Selected fellows will engage in NIH-funded research and may participate with one of the Regenstrief Institute centers, including collaboration with the Center for Biomedical Informatics as part of this training program. About the School and Department

About the School and Department:

The mission of FSPH is to cultivate innovative, interdisciplinary, community-engaged education, research and service, and to prepare leaders in public health and health care. Health is defined as the capacity to develop full human potential, not simply the absence of disease. FSPH emphasizes disease prevention and recognizes the interconnectedness of the physical environment and ecosystem with community health. Established in 2012, FSPH is fully accredited by CEPH and offers three PhD programs, an MPH with five concentrations, an MHA program, several graduate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees in Health Services Management and Public Health. Long-standing collaborations exist with entities including the Indiana State Health Department, the Marion County Public Health Department, and various community organizations and industry partners. The Departments

of Epidemiology and Health Policy & Management host these fellows. These departments have a strong track record in NIH-funded research and extramural funding from AHRQ, CDC, RWJF, the Indiana State Department of Health, and the VA; faculty include national and international experts in cancer, genetics, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, nutrition, health policy, health economics, infectious disease reporting, and public health practice.
