Duties & Responsibilities

Develop probability models of environmental differences across Georgia to identify at‑risk sites.

Coordinate with ITOS to integrate developed models into online databases.

Manage and mentor undergraduate and graduate student assistants in the Laboratory of Archaeology.

Collaborate on publications related to the project.

Position Summary The Laboratory of Archaeology seeks a Post‑Doctoral Research Fellow in Geographic Information Systems and Computer Modeling. The role will collaborate with the Laboratory Director and the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources on modeling and risk assessment for archaeological sites in Georgia. The candidate should have demonstrable skills in ArcGIS, large‑scale modeling, geostatistical methods, and knowledge of state site‑file data. Familiarity with southeastern archaeology is preferred but not required.

Relevant/Preferred Education & Experience

Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience with ArcGIS and large‑scale modeling.

Knowledge of state site‑file data and environmental modeling.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrable knowledge of ArcGIS.

Knowledge of environmental modeling and geostatistical methods.

Ability to write procedures related to site‑file research.

Physical Demands

Sitting at a computer for long periods.

Ability to lift up to 40 lb.
