Phlebotomist - FCI-Marianna
Work Location: Federal Correctional Institution - Marianna, 3625 FCI Road, Marianna, FL 32446.
Base Pay Range: $18.00/hr - $23.00/hr.
Estimated Pay: $17.53 - $22.62 per hour.
Type of Employment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
Period of Performance: Up to 5 years.
Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Clearance Requirement: National Background Check with inquiries and fingerprints, and drug screen.
Paid Time Off: 80 hours (occurs on day one). Sick Leave: 56 hours (occurs on day one). Pay Holidays: 11 paid holidays.
Working Hours The Phlebotomist will normally work Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break. Additional duties may be performed as needed by the Health Services Administrator. Delays due to inclement weather, mechanical or security matters may occur.
Summary of Duties The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures with precision, professionalism, and adherence to established protocols. Tasks include specimen identification, labeling, handling, and providing compassionate service while maintaining infection control standards and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy program approved by the State of Florida.
Hold a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Healthcare Association, or any other national organization.
Provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories, including record maintenance.
Minimum of two (2) years of Phlebotomy Technician experience.
CPR certified (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
Two letters of reference.
Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.
Submit copies of all certifications and resume with application.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collect blood and urine samples; prepare and track all laboratory samples.
Assist physicians, PA, and nurses with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring vitals and scanning results into BEMR.
Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection, and processing, including A&O in‑processing, DNA processing per procedure, vaccine programs, and PPD updates.
Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported per contract or BOP Reference Laboratory guidelines; document the process per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
Ensure lab requests are completed accurately and that all reports are returned from the contract lab.
Notify provider, update logs, follow up appropriately, and file or scan results into the lab and medical record.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures needed to accomplish the mission; keep the Laboratory Procedure Manual updated.
Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any Adult in Custody who refuses laboratory testing ordered by clinical staff.
