The Transplant Billing and Follow-up representative reports to the manager of the Transplant PFS Team. Primary responsibilities include specialized bundle billing (UB04 and CMS 1500), donor services billing, and assertive account follow-up with all transplant payers. The representative must also identify transplant recipient and donor relationships/encounters and monitor pre/post transplant event cases, calculating and reconciling case rate agreements. Managing both physician and hospital EPIC claim inventory across various work queue types is required. Understanding internal and external (payer) transplant and organ acquisition requirements throughout the revenue cycle is essential. Additionally, this position supports all other departments with transplant‑related inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

Several years of recent, advanced, and demonstrated billing and collections experience in a healthcare environment.

Billing and collections experience.

Experience analyzing and interpreting managed‑care contracts and government payer regulations to ensure compliance with contract terms and regulations.

Thorough understanding of CMS1500 and UB04 field requirements.

Detail oriented; demonstrates strong organizational skills, efficient time management, task prioritization, scheduling, and timely project completion.

Proficiency in common database, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook).

Accurate basic arithmetic skills, using a calculator when necessary.

Typing speed and accuracy.

Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external staff across various business and clinical areas.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise documents and reports.

Ability to handle a heavy workload with frequently changing priorities and tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Hospital and professional specialty transplant billing and follow‑up experience.

Academic institution or large integrated health system experience.

Department Overview Patient Financial Services (PFS) manages revenue cycle functions, including DNFB, billing, contract management, insurance follow‑up, charge audit, denials, underpayments, and internal operational and functional reporting. PFS ensures accurate and comprehensive account information for timely billing and optimal reimbursement, impacting charge capture, coding, insurance identification, data entry, registration, authorizations, billing, payment posting, refunds, and collections.
