NVA General Practice . This externship provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of an NVA hospital and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Externs will work closely with supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital schedules. All DVM students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
