The CNM provides clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the CNM. Performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. Formulates and implements prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care within midwifery scope of practice. Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators and others; promotes patient- and family-centered care. Provides continuity, compassionate, culturally sensitive care to patients, and models this for students and colleagues. Limited obstetrical ultrasound to include: fetal imaging testing as indicated and appropriate (evaluation of fetal well-being: biophysical profile, amniotic fluid volume; determination of placental location; confirmation of cardiac activity; determination of fetal lie/presentation; estimation of fetal weight). Leadership/Quality/Research: Serves on appropriate unit and hospital-wide committees related to woman and infant services. Uses current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice. Incorporates clinical research findings in standards of care and supports approved clinical research/trials. Education/Professional development: Assess educational needs, plan, provide and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community. Precept nurse midwifery students and provide education and support to residents and medical students. Provide patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care. Participates in professional organizations and continuing education. Quality control testing of amnioswab and urine dipstick testing on the FBC unit. Requirements/Qualifications
Required Master’s Degree in Nurse Midwifery Program, accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives or College of Nurse Midwifery. 6 months of obstetric nursing experience is required; 5 years of full-scope midwifery experience is preferred. Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) in Michigan upon hire; Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) - AMCB required; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA required within 180 days; Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (C-EFM) - NCC required within 180 days; OB/Gyn (OB) - ARDMS preferred upon hire; Additional certification(s) from preferred list may be required upon hire; Basic Life Support (BLS) - preferred (AHA or ARC).
