About The Job The Patient Service Representative (PSR) greets and welcomes patients and visitors to the clinic, demonstrating strong inter‑personal skills and a professional demeanor. The PSR manages front desk responsibilities including maintaining patient flow, scheduling appointments, appropriately handling phone calls (which may include entry into the medical record), validating insurance eligibility, entering demographics and other pertinent information into clinic and hospital patient accounting systems, and determining and collecting time of service payments and/or past‑due balances at the time of appointment. The PSR serves as a liaison between patients and billing when patients present with questions about their bills.
Responsibilities also include maintaining MCRHC's medical records: assembling paper charts, analyzing and abstracting patient records, handling release of information requests, processing incomplete records according to organizational policies, pulling and prepping paper charts for upcoming appointments, filing paper records into clinic charts, and retrieving paper records for phone calls, prescription refill requests, and clinical correspondences.
The Shift 28 hours per week (0.7 FTE)
Hours Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri: 7:30 am – 12:15 pm; Wed: 7:30 am – 4:15 pm
Pay $16.50, increases with experience.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Be able to obtain BLS Certification within 60 days of hire.
Be able to obtain Mandatory Reporter for both Dependent and Child within 6 months of hire.
Experience:
Six months of office or customer service experience required, preferably in a medical office setting. OR completion of an Administrative Assistant Diploma.
Computer experience preferred.
Special Skills and Competencies:
Typing speed of 35 words per minute preferred.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact diplomatically and to maintain a professional demeanor with physicians, the public, and hospital staff at all times.
Ability to discuss personal and financial matters with patients and families.
Who We Are Mitchell County Regional Health Center is located in Osage, Iowa, in Mitchell County (population 10,600). MCRHC is a 25‑bed critical access hospital, featuring a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room that sees 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, and Podiatry.
