Cardiac Cath Lab Tech, Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, 7a-7p This position prepares patients and assists in performing diagnostic and specific therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures under the direct supervision of critical care RNs, RRTs and a Cardiologist. The technician provides safe, quality patient care based upon defined standards of care for adult and geriatric patient populations.

Location:

1850 Bluegrass Ave, Louisville, KY 40215

Shift:

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Responsibilities:

Ensure top‑quality diagnostic images with minimal patient, physician, and staff radiation exposure.

Turn in monthly dosimetry badges for review and posting by the Radiation Safety Officer.

Assist in fluoroscoping lead aprons and thyroid shields annually.

Provide high‑quality diagnostic images for physician review.

Pre‑procedure teaching to patient and family.

Prepare patient for pre‑ and post‑catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.

Obtain vital signs, assess heart rhythm, pedal/brachial pulses, attach ECG monitor, and record data accurately.

Shave and prep the appropriate entry site.

Apply dressing to puncture site, ensuring no bleeding or hematoma and instruct patient on post‑procedural care.

Utilize sterile technique for preparation and maintenance of instrumentation.

Scrub and assist Cardiologist during procedures.

Operate physiological monitoring system, balancing and calibrating channels as needed.

Assist in code 300 resuscitation of the patient as required.

Other Functions:

Assist in preparing the room for cases to ensure smooth workflow and no complaints.

Demonstrate knowledge and ability to operate all cardiovascular/electrophysiology laboratory equipment.

Ensure consents for procedure are properly filled and signed.

Complete protocol sheets and documentation for each procedure.

Record patient case information and ensure proper charge sheets.

Clean catheterization area and table between cases.

Replenish supplies as needed.

Transport patients to and from the laboratory.

Participate in the mandatory call schedule and complete scheduled cases.

Maintain accurate, thorough and legible documentation.

Comply with all company policies, procedures, HIPAA privacy and security requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Education

Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology Program (required).

Experience

6 months work experience in Cardiac Cath Lab (preferred).

Certification

BLS (required).

Preferred ACLS or acquisition within 90 days.

RCIS certification or acquisition within 18 months of employment (required).

Competency

Knowledge of all cardiovascular/electrophysiology laboratory procedures.

Comprehensive understanding of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Ability to operate all laboratory equipment.

Skill in providing age‑appropriate patient care.

Language Ability

Effective verbal and written communication.

Reasoning Ability

Critical thinking through complex patient situations.

Assist others in developing clinical reasoning skills.

Computer Skills

Proficiency with electronic health record systems and related software.
